Our history

More than 45 years of expertise

Gratien Proulx establishes the firm to serve the personal insurance needs of individuals.

Sons Louis and Charles join the firm and align the business toward commercial insurance to broaden the customer base while retaining the firm’s existing clientele.

GPL has since acquired several brokerage firms, boosting its business volume and positioning the firm favorably with insurance markets to the benefit of our clients. Along the way, highly skilled professionals joined our team, to serve more specialized markets.

It is on this foundation, together with the experience acquired over the years that GPL continues its expansion, particularly for commercial and industrial risks with national and international operations. The Montreal office focuses on this specialized market.

Sign of our growth, the Globalex Special Risks team joins the ranks of GPL assurance as a division specialized in the knowledge economy. As a result of this strategic association, GPL clients now have access to an expanded range of products and services thanks to the synergies provided by the integration of the Globalex knowledge economy team into GPL. The GPL-Globalex knowledge economy team offers niche insurance and risk management services to clients working in information technology, biopharmaceutical, new media, clean technologies, venture capital and financial institutions. We are a diversified group of over 100 insurance and risk management employees and professionals at your service, and our approach remains the same: “Tailor-made solutions, personalized service”. GPL’s international scope and expertise in manufacturing and services, and its established network in 120 countries, combine to enable the new GPL-Globalex knowledge economy team to serve your risk management and insurance requirements on five continents

GPL has acquired the Quebec business of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Canada’s (“JLT Canada”). As a result of the acquisition, GPL becomes JLT’s exclusive broker in Quebec and a member of the JLT International Network. This acquisition gives us a greater presence and expertise in the areas of construction and infrastructure, energy, professional services, and aerospace and aviation and facilitates support of our clients anywhere in the world where they do business. With JLT’s established network, we are able to service clients operating on five continents and in more than 135 countries.

GPL has joined the Arthur J. Gallagher family, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of Arthur J. Gallagher Canada Limited. Becoming part of Gallagher, with its global resources and strong regional operations around the world, will enable us to continue our journey of profitable growth. We will be in a position to increase the support offered our clients by guaranteeing additional access to industry specialties and to a network of local offices located in major markets throughout the globe.
